English Postpartum Recovery Course in Düsseldorf | miofit®

Why I started an English postpartum course in Düsseldorf

I started miofit's English postpartum course because my own mother once needed exactly this kind of support when she lived in the United States — and couldn't find it. She had 2 children there, in a country that wasn't her home, in a language that wasn't her first. Back then, there were no postpartum recovery courses available to her, and even giving birth at the hospital came with real costs of its own. No one showed her how to move safely with a newborn, how to train her postpartum body, or gave her people around her to support her and celebrate her wins.

30 years later, when I gave birth to my own daughter here in Düsseldorf, I understood how much support a new mother actually needs. And with that came a second realization: how much had been missing for my mother, decades earlier, giving birth in a foreign country. I also found that there were barely any Rückbildungskurs offers for expat women here in Düsseldorf at the time.

There's a difference between being told what to do in a language you don't fully understand, and being supported in a language you are fluent in. That difference isn't small. It affects whether you ask the question that's really worrying you or a smaller, safer version of it, and whether you leave a class feeling cared for or just processed.

I'm grateful that today, there are more options for expat mothers, including here in Düsseldorf: miofit's English postpartum course is one of them. It exists because of everything my mother didn't have.

What the Course Actually Covers

The course focuses on your whole body, not just one muscle. Pelvic floor work is central, but is trained alongside core strength, posture, breathing techniques and safe movement patterns for everyday life with a baby, such as carrying, bending, lifting and standing back up from the floor for the tenth time that day. Over eight sessions, you will build strength that you can use outside the studio, not just during the hour you spend in the room.

Most women start 4 to 6 weeks after a vaginal birth or 6 to 8 weeks after a caesarean, though your own recovery and well-being is always the priority.

The physical work is just as important as what happens around it. You're not doing this alone. You're in a room with other women going through the same life stage, speaking a language you're fully comfortable with, and able to ask those small, embarrassing questions without having to translate them first.

What other expat mums say

I don't need to tell you what that feels like from the outside. Two of the women who took the course, Marina and Andreea, expressed it wonderfully:

"This course was the best thing that happened to me since I gave birth. Motherhood as an expat mom can be really lonely and the course gave me a feeling of belonging. I met a great group of friends, I feel much better about my body and feel more like me. Tuesdays became my favorite day in the week, I was always looking forward the next Tuesday. Thank you for everything, I will never forget that." - Marina

"I attended a pelvic floor course, in English. Viola is amazing, very dedicated, experienced, knowledgeable, and her energy is just contagious. Content was informative and I really appreciated the focus on simple exercises which can be done at home, even when watching the baby. Would indeed recommend further" - Andreea

I hope every woman who takes this course walks away with that feeling — of our sessions becoming something to look forward to and of a body that feels like yours again.

Is it certified, and will my insurance cover it partially?

The course is certified as a Präventionskurs under §20 SGB V in Germany, through the ZPP (Zentrale Prüfstelle Prävention), the country's central preventive health certification body. Statutory health insurers in Germany typically reimburse part of the cost, though the exact amount depends on your individual insurer and plan. It is therefore worth checking with your insurer directly before booking, since I cannot promise a specific amount.

Who this course is for:

This course is designed for postpartum women in Düsseldorf who wish to participate in English, whether it is your first language or simply the language with which you are comfortable at this time. You don't need to speak German to receive real, evidence-based support for your body and to be part of a community that understands exactly what you are going through, being far from your own family in a city that may still feel new to you. Perhaps you moved here for your partner's or your own job and had a baby before you had a chance to settle in. That's exactly who this course is for.

Tip: If group classes aren't right for you at the moment, miofit® also offers premium 1:1 coaching in English (👉🏼 book your free consultation call 💎), including home visits in some cases — just get in touch if you think this would be a better fit.

How to join:

If you think this is the support you've been looking for, you can book your spot directly on the miofit® website. I'd love to meet you, and perhaps one day Tuesdays will become your favourite day of the week too!
